S Club Going to Pot?
The fall-out from S Club 7′s recent drug bust continues, after it emerged that the Labour party were set to use one of their songs for the forthcoming election campaign.
According to reports in the UK press, plans for the government to launch their bid for re-election with the smash hit ‘Reach’ have now been axed.
The news follows the arrest of all three male band members last week, who were cautioned for smoking cannabis in London’s Covent Garden.
Tony Blair’s party were believed to have earmarked the track because of its inspiring sentiments.
A Labour insider commented: “It’s fortunate that this happened before the song was chosen to accompany the party through the election and not once it was played at every opportunity.
“We were originally attracted by the band’s wholesome image and the words of the song tied in perfectly with the theme that Labour is ambitious for a second term and the future.”
He concluded: “The group was seen as young and ambitious, the perfect image for New Labour, but that’s gone to pot and we’ll have to go back to the drawing board.”
