Rachel Hits Right Note in Sporting Fund-raiser

Singer Rachel Stevens today promised to put her best foot forward in support of Sports Relief 2004. The former S Club star, who sings the event’s charity single Some Girls, joined a host of stars to be revealed as a Sport Relief Celebrity All Star at the event’s launch at the Science Museum in London. Olympic hero Sir Steve Redgrave, TV presenters Tess Daly, Gaby Logan and Gary Lineker and athlete Colin Jackson also took part.

Said Rachel: “This is really good for me to take part in and to try and get fit. Sport brings people together. It’s really fun – just go out there and do it.” The star said she hoped the video to the track, which she described as pop glam rock, would be fun and also encourage youngsters to take part. She added: “I think children should get outside.”

This year’s theme is “Go the Extra Mile” and organisers hope thousands of people will join organised events across the country on July 10 to help raise cash for the disadvantaged in the UK and abroad. The £14.4m raised in 2002 was used to support groups including street children in India and a project to promote racial harmony in south Camden, London.
