Luka Yuanyuan Yang’s film opens with a walking tour of San Francisco’s Chinatown: entering the last surviving theater after the 1940s film scene lady from shanghai directed by Orson Welles; wandering from Shanghai Low to Forbidden City Nightclub – the camera follows Chinese-American nightclub dancer Cynthia Yee, historians Wylie Wong and David Lei on a journey through time and space.

About the artist

Luka Yuanyuan Yang (born in 1989 in Beijing) is a visual artist and filmmaker. His works have been exhibited at the Center for Heritage Arts & Textile, HK; Rockbund Art Museum, Shanghai; Art Power Station, Shanghai; Times Art Museum & Times Arts Center Berlin; Chinese American Arts Council, NY; Art in General, NY; Espacio de Arte Contemporaneo, Uruguay; M WOODS, Beijing; Three Shadows Center for Photographic Art, Beijing; G Art Museum, Nanjing; Sifang Art Museum, Nanjing; OCAT, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen; AIKE, Shanghai; Modern Art Base, Shanghai, Shanghai Urban Space Art Season and more. His first feature film women’s world won awards and praise in the industry section of Pingyao International Film Festival, Doc Edge Documentary Festival, CNEX and Shanyi International Women’s Film Festival. The film will be released in 2023.
