Last spring, the Mitchell Fish & Game Club, located just outside Fullarton, purchased five new archery targets with the goal of having an archery club within the club for focus on archery for young people. Unfortunately, with the COVID-19 pandemic last year, the club was unable to continue the program.

However, this year they were able to start a program after the “lockdown” was lifted and move forward with the youth, thanks to the expertise and dedication of member Bob TenHove.

Fish & Game Club president Scott Wood said they can run a house archery league program Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. all summer long. (The final session takes place on September 2).

The club had four tracks, all with their own goals to focus on, and TenHove worked with each child with tips to help them succeed.

“As we move forward into the next year, we hope to grow the program into a league for the more competitive people who have been able to use their hard work, commitment and Bob’s advice to improve all summer long.” Wood said.

Some young people actually bought their own equipment, confirming their interest, Wood noted.

To participate in the program, all you had to do was purchase a one-year membership for $ 70 per family, and use the Club all year round to fish, hike, have a small family picnic or simply. sit and enjoy the outdoors. From there, participants were required to pay $ 2 per night to the archery program to help cover the cost of the paper targets and the equipment provided. All bows, arrows and targets are provided by the Mitchell Fish & Game Club and are available to everyone during one of two weekly sessions.

“We have had a very successful year and hope to improve our numbers in the future, on the average night we would average between 12 and 20 shooters,” said Wood.

As the archery season drew to a close, the Fish & Game Club received a generous donation of a full set of youth archery bows and arrows from Jason Beuermann and his Coonhound Sales & Marketing team based in Dublin.

Wood said they would also like to give a special thank you to TenHove for his commitment and time spent on the program.

“He’s spent countless hours there this summer in the heat, the rain and even on days with no one around due to other commitments to other sports and events,” said Wood.

The Fish & Game Club is always looking for new volunteers and members. If anyone is interested in joining the Club, please do not hesitate to contact Wood or any other member of the executive and join his Facebook page.
