Kirkcaldy Acoustic Music Club unveil comeback gig after two years of closure

The longtime club will mark their return with a throwback concert on Thursday, July 14, featuring good friends and great local musicians.

It will then return with bi-monthly concerts featuring top touring musicians and bands.

The club has been at the forefront of supporting live music in the Lang Toun for many years.

David Hersaw and a team of volunteers are now ready to start a new era after the longest forced closure.

He said: “So many people have been in touch to say they are delighted that the concerts are back.

“There’s a lot of love for the acoustic music club – people have come out and bought tickets for the first shows to pick up that routine of coming in regularly. It’s been great.

“After closing our doors in March 2020 when COVID hit, there was uncertainty about the future of the venue, but that appears to be resolved.

“We tried to come back between the various lockdowns, with concerts planned, but they were pulled at the last minute when cases increased again.

“It’s great to be able to bring him back when it’s safe to do so.”

David will also participate in the Comeback Gig line-up with Sandie Forbes in a line-up that also includes mainstays such as Fiona Forbes, Willie Hershaw, Paper Sparrows and Vivienne Bern and Lynzy Moutter, better known as The Coaltown Daisies.

Also on the bill is Kirkcaldy singer-songwriter David Latto, who is wrapping up the journey since COVID – David also has a gig in his own name scheduled for August 11.

His 2020 concert was one of the first to be affected by the lockdown, so it’s only fitting that he headlines the first concert of a new era.

The club initially offers fortnightly shows and is already booking through 2023, bringing the best of traditional Scottish music, folk, world music, Americana and more to the Polish club.

The list includes Lindisfarne legend Rod Clement on July 27, and Jez Lowe & Andy May on August 25.

The club is run entirely by volunteers, and their commitment has been key to its longevity.

David added: “There’s a huge team behind the scenes – they do everything from tickets on the door, to sound, to plays for the audience at the end.

“Many have been there from the start and provide traveling musicians with accommodation, hot food and a warm welcome.

“And when you’re on the road, it makes a huge difference and allows us to bring touring bands to Kirkcaldy who otherwise might not have come.

“It’s really a huge team effort. People turn everything upside down in the club.

Big names who have played at the Polish Club include Rab Noakes, Michael Marra and Dean Owens.
