I’m wary and won’t get close to any mobile games like this now after wasting a year of my life on each game. I’m surprised I even went to Animal Crossing after leaving The Simpsons, but I think it was because that was when AC was just released, so they hadn’t yet put in place some mechanics that required a significant investment of time and also loot boxes. But yes, in terms of manipulation and general gamification of good, games. I’m not a fan of that either! I got hooked on two mobile games called The Simpsons Tapped Out and Animal Crossing Pocket Camp. I gave up both habits after about a year in a row when both games made it impossible to get in-game items without paying. That is, you couldn’t get them through pure gameplay. Leaving both games was a huge relief, like a heavy weight on my shoulders as I literally planned my day to play them. I’m sure you know how they work with cool down timers and the like. You can play as 5 coins during your waking hours.
In terms of full-priced games that had these mechanics, I tend to stay away after having a 9 month fight with Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled. It really is an amazing game, but keeping up with the monthly events has been so hard on my physical and mental well-being. I’m glad it’s over.
But yeah, saving for an X series with MS points reminds me of how I got my PS3. I got it from something Coca Cola called CokeZone. It was while I was in college and drinking gallons of Diet Coke every day anyway, so I thought I’d cash in my points. A few years later, I had a PS3 delivered to my door! (And now I’m drinking Pepsi Max 😂) I think I must be the worst kind of customer for this MS Rewards thing to be honest. I never read responses to surveys or quizzes. I just hit anything not to know how much quality data they are actually able to collect on me and all the links that are supposed to be ads are only clicked for a fraction of a second before I come back on a page. I will only very occasionally buy stuff from the store for the punch cards and that’s normally if I want something anyway and think I’m going to buy a few other things that I could probably wait to buy, but I just asking them to round it up to £ 35 or whatever. But I would buy the games later anyway and the discounts won’t be much different, so I think the only thing I could help is MS’s immediate cash flow. And also, I only use Edge or Bing for rewards. I use Chrome to browse my phone (I just ditched privacy because I’m sure Google’s AI can see anything I’m doing anyway) and I’m using Mozilla Firefox with the duck duck go se plug into the computer.
