DALLAS TWP. – Old Broadway glamor meets today’s sparkle in the Dallas High School Theater Club production called “That’s Broadway.”
The music review features songs from various Broadway productions including “Fiddler on the Roof”, “Sound of Music” as well as more recent tracks such as “The Lion King”, “Newies” and “Wicked”, according to Victoria Vespico. . , assistant director.
The Dallas High School Theater Club will take the stage at 8 p.m. on March 24 and 25 in the Dallas High School auditorium in Dallas Township.
Tickets cost $ 5 per person and are available at the door on performance nights, club manager Harold McKeown said.
Vespico, a high school student from Dallas High School, said the show will continue whether or not teachers go on strike on March 24.
“We refuse to let a strike prevent the show from continuing,” she said. “Either way, the show will go on. “
The Dallas High School Theater Club still has two performances per year. The teachers’ union strike which began on November 14 and ended on December 19 postponed the November performance of a Tim Kelly adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “Hound of the Baskerville” to January 6-7. .
The energy on stage as the students rehearsed the “Welcome to the Renaissance” choreography from “Something Rotten” made the other cast members stop and watch.
Freshman Davy Janoski said the hardest part of the program is switching between styles of music and character roles.
“It’s difficult to play a variety of characters,” he said.
Sophomore Nichole Conrad sings “For Good”, a duet from “Wicked”, a Broadway musical about witches from “The Wizard of Oz”. The teenager then switches to an 1800s delivery guy in “Newies.”
The heavy musical performance, consisting of nearly 20 songs, will give audiences a comedic break as the cast members perform Abbot and Costello’s “Who’s On First” and “7 × 13 = 28” skits, McKeown said. .
“Music criticism will give people a taste of Broadway theater,” Vespico said.
