Tony Champ Nina Arianda returns from Manhattan Theater Club

Nina Arianda, the actress whose last role on stage won her a Tony in “Venus in Fur”, returns on stage with the Off Broadway bow of “Tales from Red Vienna” at the Manhattan Theater Club.

Gotham nonprofit MTC brought “Venus” to Broadway – thus making the show eligible for the Tony Awards – in 2011, in association with Classic Stage Company, the Off Broadway troupe that premiered the play in 2010 and gave Arianda her leading role. She then made her Broadway debut in the 2011 revival of “Born Yesterday” before returning to “Venus” at MTC. She has also appeared in films such as “Tower Height” and the upcoming “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby”.

“Tales from Red Vienna” is the latest play by David Grimm, the scribe whose Off Broadway credits also include “Measure for Pleasure” and “Steve and Idi”. Kate Whoriskey, who ran “Ruined” at MTC, runs production, about a World War I widow who gets entangled in a seedy underworld as she struggles to maintain her financial stability.

“Red Vienna” is part of an MTC Off Broadway season that begins with “The Commons of Pensacola”, a new play by Amanda Peet and starring Blythe Danner and Sarah Jessica Parker, and ends with Cherry Jones starrer “When We Were Young and Unafraid. “

“Tales of Red Vienna” premieres February 26 before opening March 18 at New York City Center Stage I. The cast is yet to be defined.
